The Wood Awards are Britain’s premier award for wood in buildings and furniture. They are awarded annually with the aim to recognise, encourage and promote outstanding design, craftsmanship and installation in wood.
Judges comprise high profile architects, engineers, furniture designer / makers, wood specialists and leading architectural journalists. Sponsors include leading organisations involved in wood marketing and education in the UK including the Carpenters’ Company, the American Hardwood Export Council (AHEC), TRADA and Wood For Good.
Diamond Hall, University of Ireland, in Coleraine, Co Antrim, Northern Ireland was awarded in the Conservation/Restoration Category, which is for any project in the private or public sector in which conservation and/or restoration is the primary objective.
Brooks Bros (UK) Ltd, Skelmersdale supplied approximately 40,000 metres of PEFC certified untreated, kiln dried Western Red Cedar machined in various sections which were fixed to FSC certified battens. The Cedar was chosen for its’ appearance, inherent durability, sustainability, dimensional stability, cost and low maintenance properties. The fixings and profile designs evolved through close consultation with Brooks Bros personnel and joinery specialists with guidance from TRADA.
