Just like it was 200 years ago

When the owners of a period house in South Yorkshire were considering replacing the floor of a downstairs reception room, Brooks Bros were asked to take a look. The new floor had to ‘retain the style’ of the original floor that had been laid some 200 years ago.

Following a site visit (to assess the scope of the work) solid French Oak, randomly fitted in two different plank widths and micro bevelled, was recommended and supplied.

The work required removal of the original floor, joists being either levelled or replaced before the new floor was secret nailed into position. The finish of the flooring was achieved through a brushing process and the use of coloured oils to the customer’s choice. Brooks Bros also recommended the fitters and finishing contractors.

Brooks Bros’ Tony Lancaster reflected, “This was a really rewarding project, not a huge one but when the owners said they were absolutely delighted with the result and very proud that at last they were able to now "show off " this room as it probably appeared when it was first built, they added - actually, I bet it is far superior to the original but I suppose we will never know.”
